Pittsburgh—Eaton Corporation's newest scalable uninterruptible power supply product, their 10-kVA Pulsar MX Frame is now available in a 10U configuration. Accommodating the Pulsar MX 5000 RT hot-swappable power modules and battery modules, the on-line, double-conversion Pulsar MX Frame, sold under the MGE Office Protection Systems brand, is billed as a low-cost entry solution to scalable power and easy-to-populate modular systems.
"The Pulsar MX Frame is an ideal solution for blade servers and dense telecommunication racks, as the Pulsar MX Frame saves rack space and allows users to easily maximize their UPS investment," said Herve Tardy, vice president and general manager, Distributed Power Quality Division. "When power demands grow, users can purchase a Pulsar MX 10U Frame and simply populate it with the original sub-modules. An additional 5-kVA power sub-module and battery sub-module can be added to quickly scale up to 10 kVA or create a 5-kVA system with N+1 redundancy without users having to purchase a completely new UPS. This provides a distinct cost advantage."
Requiring just 3U (5.25 inches) for the combination of power and battery sub-modules, the 5-kVA rackmount/tower UPS units feature hot-swappable battery and power sub-modules, auto battery-test, switched outlets and a multilingual LCD display. The Pulsar MX Frame boasts two communication slots for versatile, redundant network integration. Included power management software provides coverage for most environments found in high-density computing
environments like Linux, VMware, and Microsoft Virtual Server. The software also incorporates seamless integration with the IBM BladeCenter as well as the ability to dynamically manage redundancy at the protected server level.
