Dallas—Texas Instruments' TPS62260LED design kit and the company's eZ430-RF2500 development tool touts a fully supported platform for remote control of RGB light-emitting sources for consumer, professional, and architectural applications. The RF-based system is particularly suited to building automation control networks, allowing for upgrading the facilities to LED lighting with minimal changes in wiring infrastructure.
The TPS62260LED controls the color and brightness of a lamp or runs an automatic color light animation program. The board's MSP430F2131 microcontroller sets the brightness of each LED through three constant-current LED drivers, one for each LED (red, green, and blue, from OSRAM). The design module is pin compatible with TI's TPS62240 buck converters for lower-current LED applications, and the TPS62290 for higher-current LED applications. The eZ430-RF2500, a wireless development tool for the MSP430 that includes all the required hardware and software, plugs directly into the TPS62260LED board.
