Timing devices extend battery life for ultra-mobile PCs

Courtesy of eeProductCenter

San Jose, Calif. — Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT) has introduced a family of ultra-low-power timing devices designed for ultra-mobile PCs (UMPCs). These timing devices minimally require a 1.5-volt power supply, compared to 3.3 volts for standard timing devices, which helps extend the battery life of the UMPC.

The UMPC timing devices also help extend the wireless signal range of the UMPC and improve the bandwidth, resulting in faster data transfer rates and improving the end user's mobile Internet experience. This is achieved by supporting spread spectrum for reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI) and programmable slew rate for reducing radio frequency interference (RFI).

The UMPC timing devices are housed in a 6 x 6-mm micro lead frame (MLF) package. Pin-compatible UMPC timing devices are available for automotive and industrial applications such as automotive infotainment and embedded and automation systems that require an industrial operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

The IDT family of UMPC timing devices — the 9UM9000 series and the 9UM700 series — is currently shipping in production and is available in 32 pins to 56 pins with QFN and SSOP packages.

Pricing: $1.25 to $1.95 for commercial-grade UMPC timing devices in quantities of 10,000 units.
