High-voltage scan drivers minimize panel cost in LCD HDTVs

Sunnyvale, Calif.—Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX17120/MAX17121, triple/dual, high-voltage, level-shifting scan drivers for TFT panels with integrated gate logic.

According to Maxim, these devices minimize panel cost in LCD TVs by integrating all logic required to implement a high-performance scan-driver system. Each scan driver has two channels that switch complementarily. Their outputs swing from +40V to -30V and can swiftly drive capacitive loads. In order to save power, these complementary outputs share the charge of their capacitive load before they change states. These devices are well suited for driving large- (MAX17120) and regular-sized (MAX17121) HDTV LCD panels.

The MAX17120 is available in a 5mm x 5mm, 32-pin TQFN package, and the MAX17121 is available in a 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin TQFN; both packages have a maximum thickness of 0.8mm for ultra-thin LCD panels.

Pricing: Starts at $0.70 (1000-up, FOB USA).
Availability: Now.
Datasheets: MAX17120 and MAX17121.
